A new frontier in HVAC Service

Inspect all air systems at unit for air leaks

As in the previous section on securing panels it is very important to get the air in the right place. If a system located in the attic or crawl space of a home is connected to a duct system with a leak, the systems efficiency is compromised. For example if you have a 3 ton system it will move approximately 400 cubic feet of air per minute. 400 x 3 = 1200 cfm. If your system pushes 1200 cfm of air into a duct system and 300 cfm leaks out of the duct before entering the home, the system then has to recover that air from another source other than the home. This is called a supply air leak, and this puts the house under a negative pressure. If the return had a leak then the house would be pressurized.
